Beasts of the Wild
For the next several days I'm posting pictures of animals, mostly taken from our trip to Zambia in September 2008 in the dry season there. The alligator in this first series, however, was shot from a small cruise boat in a Louisiana bayou with my "old" Oly E-10. (My trip with my stepson Bryan to the New Orleans Jazz Festival several years ago.)

Young village boy in Chongwe village, Sept. 2008
My wife Susan and I took a dream trip to Zambia and South Africa last year. My son Rod (then in the Peace Corps) took us to Chonwe village about 40 minutes from Lusaka, where he had lived with his "home family" in preparation for his stint in the bush there. On the way to his former "home" we met the lad in the picture here. Something about his the biblical passage on the T-shirt he wore ("for God so loved the world…"), his serious countenance and the fish he'd caught all seemed to work together in a way beyond the telling.
